Redeeming Love Book Review

If you have been paying any attention lately, trafficking children has been a real problem that many of us are becoming more aware of. Perhaps you've seen the hashtag #saveourchildren floating around Facebook and Twitter. Some hundreds of thousand of children are being taken every year for sex and slave trade, enough is enough.

Redeeming Love

So what does this have to do with the book Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers? Everything.

Sarah, the heroine of this historical romance, had a happy beginning of her young life, living with her beautiful mother until one day when her father decided he was done paying for their lifestyle and gave her mother up as his mistress.

From then on, things got dark. Her mother, not really able to get a job had to do what she could to bring in money, eventually getting sick and then died, leaving Sarah in the hands of a drunken man named Rab. Rab has no idea what he's doing so he sells Sarah to a handsome, rich man named Duke. That was the night she became Angel. The once innocent child, grew up overnight when he dressed her up and then spent the night with her. She was only 8.

Her heart harden, with even harder, stronger walls built up around her, we find Angel who escaped to California, during the 1850s gold rush, where she becomes the highest prized prostitute. Angel wants to save up her earnings, so she can one day retire to the country side and live in a little house like the one she grew up in, when her life had been happy. God, on the other hand, seemed to have a different plan for her.

Michael Hosea, a country farmer, was selling his produce when he saw Angel walk by. As soon as he laid his eyes on her, he heard God say, "This is the woman I want you to marry." Not put off by her profession, Michael decides to follow God's will and courts Angel the best way he knows how- by paying to spend a few moments with her.

I don't want to spoil everything for you, so I want to say, Michael and Angel have a long journey ahead of them. Michael wants to love Angel, care for her, and have children and a relationship with her, however, Angel just wants to be left alone and care for only herself because she had been the only one looking after her since the day she was sold ten years before.

Review

This book is one of my favorites.... One that I have read about once a year since I started college in 2005. Francine Rivers does a wonderful job writing this story. There are times I've cried, felt awkward, fell in love, been angered, been triggered. This book will make you think.

And now it's being made into a movie.

Oh my gosh, you guys! I'm so excited!

This movie is going to make you think. With #SaveOurChildren coming to light, I also think that in 2021, when we watch this movie, people are going to be triggered. They are going to be uncomfortable. No one wants to talk about pedophilia, but it needs to be talked about because it affect so many more people than we may even realize. It's not only the children who are being trafficked that this sick perversion has affected. It could be your siblings, your cousins, your neighbors, or students and you may not even know because it isn't something that someone who has had this happen to them wants to talk about.

This is the time to pay attention and act.
